History of the company

The history of the future Fomin & Partners Bar Association dates back to 1903, when Foma Tarasiiev Pantelii moved from Pereyaslav, Kyiv region, to Kharkiv, where, having completed his law degree, he began his professional career in the legal department of the South-Western Railway and progressed from the position of a clerk to the head of the claims department.

Thus, for five generations, the Fomin legal dynasty has been preserving and passing on the traditions of lawyers. In the Kyiv Bar, human rights have been defended by attorney Yurii Fomin since 1973, attorney Ihor Fomin since 1987, attorney Denys Fomin since 2017, and attorney Oksana Fomina since 2020.

After the declaration of Ukraine's independence and the adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On the Bar", Igor Fomin founded a law firm, and later, in cooperation with his colleagues, Fomin & Partners Law Firm was established.  

The long-standing traditions of responsibility and professionalism, respect for human rights and the law are the common achievement of each partner and employee of the law firm, developed over the years. It is no coincidence that the motto of the Attorneys' Office is the Latin "Nemo est supra leges" - "No one is above the law".

This attitude of the attorneys to their work has not gone unnoticed and respected. The attorneys at law of the Attorneys' Association have defended the most high-profile criminal cases in the history of Ukraine.  

Along with ordinary Ukrainians, the highest officials of the State have also received legal assistance. Two Presidents of Ukraine, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, two Prosecutors General and their deputies, the Chairman and Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the Head of the National Bank, the Vice-Prime Minister, the Ministers of Internal Affairs, Finance, Economy, Foreign Affairs, other members of the Cabinet of Ministers of different times and different governments of Ukraine, dozens of Members of Parliament of different convocations. Legal aid has been provided to representatives of big business on numerous occasions.

The attorneys of the association have defended and represented clients in various countries, including the UK, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, Israel and others.

The lawyers of the association are pleased to share their knowledge and experience with young and experienced colleagues. For many years, they have been engaged in significant educational and public activities. In different cities of Ukraine, at different universities, they give lectures and conduct practical classes, trainings, and the attorneys of the association are actively involved in the professional development of human rights defenders and the institution of the Bar as a whole. 

The managing partner of the law firm, attorney-at-law Igor Fomin, has an active public position. For many years, he was an assistant to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Combating Corruption, a pro bono consultant to this Committee, and is currently a member of the Human Rights Protection Commission of the Bar Council of Ukraine, represents the interests of the Bar in the Verkhovna Rada together with his colleagues, a member of the Advisory Council on the Rights of Defenders of Ukraine under the President of Ukraine, and a pro bono adviser to the Minister of Justice.
